Scholarships for Women: Numerous scholarships for women are offered by institutions and organizations all over the world, but many of them are motivated by the persistent underrepresentation of women in various professions especially at the highest levels.
Of course, being a woman won’t automatically qualify you for a scholarship. Scholarships for women can be awarded based on a variety of factors, such as academic excellence, athletic prowess, leadership qualities, membership in a particular culture or community, age, or membership in a minority group.

Below is a list of some of the most well-known organizations that offer overseas scholarships for women.

1,000 Dreams Scholarship Fund
The 1,000 Dreams Scholarship provides one-time educational assistance for currently enrolled high school or college-aged women throughout the United States.
This can include assistance for needs including, but not exclusive to:
- Educational conferences
- Instructional programs related to creative or artistic pursuits
- Graduate exam application fees
- Textbooks
Needs that are ongoing (e.g., utility bills, food costs) or related to medical care are not covered by this fund.
This scholarship is not to fund tuition. The intention is to provide access to educational opportunities beyond tuition.
Scholarship Amount: Up to $1,000
Scholarship Eligibility:
1. Women enrolled in high school or a two- or four-year college or university in the United States are eligible for financial aid.
2. Students must show that they have a financial necessity. Applications must be accompanied by an essay outlining how the grant will be used as well as two letters of recommendation.
3. Selection will be based on letter(s) of recommendation information, financial need, and application information. No one who has previously received this scholarship may reapply.

American Association of University Women (AAUW)
There are seven different kinds of grants and fellowships available for women through the American Association of University Women (AAUW).
These include International Fellowships for women from other nations who want to study in the US, American Fellowships for female scholars who are US citizens or permanent residents, and Selected Professions Fellowships to assist women in the US who are pursuing a master’s degree in the disciplines of architecture, computer science, engineering, and mathematics.
The Schlumberger Foundation
Women studying science and technology are supported by the nonprofit Schlumberger Foundation.
Through its flagship Faculty for the Future program, women from developing and emerging economies are given fellowships to pursue Ph.D. or postdoctoral degrees in STEM subjects at universities throughout the world.
Grant amounts are set based on an evaluation of the costs involved, up to US$50,000 per year, and recipients are chosen based on both scientific talent and leadership ability.

PEO International Scholarship
PEO International, a US-based organization founded in 1869, oversees six initiatives aimed at assisting women in their pursuit of higher education.
Women from countries other than the United States and Canada who wish to pursue graduate-level studies in one of those two nations can apply for international scholarships through the PEO International Peace Scholarship Fund.
Women in the US and Canada whose educational career has been interrupted for a variety of reasons are eligible for need-based grants of up to US$3,000 under the PEO Program for Continuing Education.
Additionally, scholarships are available for women applying to study at the undergraduate and Ph.D. levels through the PEO STAR Scholarship and PEO Scholar Awards, respectively.
Margaret McNamara Education Grants
The Margaret McNamara Education Grants offer scholarships for women aged 25 or over who are studying in the US, Canada, or select universities in South Africa and Latin America.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate a commitment to improving the lives of women and children and be from a country designated as a “lower or middle income developing member country.
Zonta International Scholarship
Zonta International offers two scholarship programs as part of its efforts to advance the rights, well-being, and professional status of women all over the world.
A number of annual scholarships are given out by the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship to women pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in business management.
Scholarships for US$2,000 at the district/regional level and US$8,000 at the international level are awarded to Zonta club members alone.
For women pursuing Ph.D. degrees in the aerospace industry, the Amelia Earhart Fellowship is available.
Each year, this program gives 30 women from all around the world scholarships worth $10,000 each, which can be applied toward Ph.D. study at any institution or college.
Women Techmakers Scholars Program
Scholarships are given to women pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in computer science and technology through Google’s Women Techmakers Scholars Program.
Around $10,000 in scholarships are given out each year, and candidates are judged on their leadership experience and academic record.
Successful applicants receive financial support in addition to an invitation to a special “retreat” that includes workshops, speakers, networking opportunities, and social activities at one of Google’s major regional headquarters.
L’Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science Programme
Women conducting postdoctoral research in the biological sciences at any university or research institution in the UK or Ireland are eligible to apply for one of five worldwide fellowships totaling £15,000 each year under the L’Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science Program.
By spending time in a top research facility outside of their own nation, young scientists are encouraged to expand their areas of competence.
