Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is designed to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students who demonstrate exceptional financial need, particularly those with the lowest Expected Family Contributions (EFCs).
Priority is given to students who also receive Federal Pell Grants. One of the significant advantages of the FSEOG is that it is a grant, meaning it does not need to be repaid.
Federal grants encompass two main categories: the Pell Grant and the Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG).
These grants are primarily awarded based on financial need and, in most cases, do not require repayment. Pell Grant amounts typically range from $672 to $6,495, while the FSEOG offers up to $400.

Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the FSEOG, students should meet the following criteria:
1. Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the March 1 priority deadline for the upcoming aid year.
2. Demonstration of exceptional financial need and meeting the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) requirements, which can vary from one aid year to another.
3. Admission into an undergraduate degree-seeking program.
4. Non-possession of a bachelor’s, graduate, or professional degree.
5. It’s important to note that the availability of the Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant is limited due to funding constraints.
Not all eligible students may receive this grant, and some awards are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Therefore, it is recommended that students submit their FAFSA as early as possible, typically starting each October 1.

Eligibility for the FSEOG is partially determined by the exceptional financial need information provided on the FAFSA. Any changes to this information, such as amendments to the FAFSA, verification processes, or conflicting data, may impact eligibility.
