Scholars Program for African Students

Each institution has different requirements, thus applicants are urged to read the policies and get in touch with the organizations.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program aspires to create an inclusive and equitable socioeconomic change-making network of young people and institutions across Africa.

About the Scholars Program

The Program has helped almost 40,000 young Africans pursue secondary or tertiary education since its establishment in 2012.

They are aware that in order to help Scholars and young people throughout Africa succeed, it is necessary to address systemic challenges to higher education, build capacity, promote creative solutions in key industries, and link ecosystem actors to increase our effect on the whole continent.

Together with youth, colleges, NGOs, and other stakeholders in higher education, the Program works to foster the environment necessary for young people to receive inclusive and relevant education, make a seamless transition into respectable and rewarding employment, and lead transforming lives.

Who is Eligible?

Candidates must be under 29 years old when they apply for an undergraduate (bachelor’s) degree. Candidates for a graduate (master’s) degree must be 35 years of age or younger at the time of application.

Additionally, each university has its own requirements for admission. Review the institution’s application requirements thoroughly before submitting an application.

Before you Apply:

Do a thorough study of the eligibility requirements, requirements, deadlines, and other application instructions on the Program website of the university of your choosing.

Choose the college and program to which you want to apply. You can apply to as many colleges as you want, but you should be aware that it takes a lot of work to complete an application package.

Prepare the submission-required paperwork. Different kinds of documentation are needed by each institution as part of the application process. An incomplete application will result from submitting a document after the due date.

Take the necessary tests if necessary a few months before beginning your application. Each applicant must first satisfy the university’s admissions requirements in order to be eligible for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.

Tests like the SAT, TOEFL, or IELTS may be part of the prerequisites for all international students at some institutions. These are not necessary for other university partners.

Request references. Letters of recommendation are typically required by universities. Ask somebody who is familiar with you, such as a teacher, mentor, or community leader, for help before you apply.

Some colleges ask for online submission of the recommendation. In this situation, it is the applicant’s duty to contact his or her references regarding the online application.

When Applying:

Follow the guidelines for applying to the university program. Some partners only accept applications submitted online, while others only accept applications submitted on paper.

Keep in mind the due date and don’t submit your application the day before. Verify the contents of your application packet to make sure you’ve included all the necessary paperwork. The Scholars Program will not consider late or incomplete applications.
