The Nigerian Navy, a component of the Nigerian Armed Forces and one of the largest navies in Africa with several thousand personnel, including those of the Coast Guard, invites applications from qualified Nigerians.

As per an official release, the recruitment process for Nigerian Navy DSSC Course 29 is set to commence on December 27, 2023.

In the publication, the Chief of the Naval Staff extends compliments to the Honourable Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy.

The Chief of the Naval Staff is pleased to inform the Chairman that the Nigerian Navy Special Enlistment Exercise for Direct Short Service Commission Course 29 is scheduled to take place from December 2023 to May 2024.

General Information to Candidates

1. The applicant must be a Nigerian citizen by birth. The warning is issued against providing false information or submitting fake certificates.

Discovery of any falsified information or counterfeit certificates at any stage will result in disqualification and potential prosecution of the applicant.

2. Applicants are required to have a minimum of Second Class Upper Division for those with a First degree and Upper Credit for HND holders. Computer literacy is advantageous in all fields.

Additionally, applicants must hold certificates of full registration with their respective statutory professional bodies in Nigeria.

3. Those with credentials from foreign institutions should ensure that their certificates are authenticated by the Federal Ministry of Education, and copies of all certificates must be submitted at selected aptitude test centers.

4. All applicants are obligated to present their O’level West African Examination Certificate (WAEC), along with any other results such as NECO. A credit in Mathematics and English is compulsory.

5. Enlistment requires possession of the NYSC discharge certificate or a letter of exemption from NYSC. Male applicants should not be less than 1.68 meters tall, while female applicants should not be less than 1.65 meters tall.

6. Applicants should be between 22 and 28 years of age by March 25, 2024, except for Medical Officers who should not be more than 30 years old.

7. Serving personnel, including Soldiers/Ratings/Airmen and other paramilitary services personnel, must obtain a letter of attestation duly signed by the heads of their units.

8. Applicants for the Nigerian Navy (NN) Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) Course 29 Special Enlistment will undergo a qualifying aptitude test. The date and time of the aptitude test will be communicated through the Nigerian Navy website: www.joinnigeriannavy.com.

9. Applicants for the Nigerian Navy (NN) Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) Course 29 Special Enlistment should be aware that the entire special enlistment process is free of charge. They are cautioned against giving money to any individual under any pretense.

10. Upon completing the application form, applicants are instructed to click “SUBMIT” on the portal to generate the applicant’s Transaction ID. Subsequently, applicants are advised to print a copy of the “Application Summary.”

Applicants are to choose any of the following centers for the qualifying aptitude test:

1. Abuja Centres:

Army Day Secondary School, Mogadishu Barracks.

Command Day Secondary School, Lungi Barracks.

2. Bauchi Centre:

Command Day Secondary School, Shadawanka Barracks.

Owerrinta Centre:

Nigerian Navy College of Accounts and Finance, Owerrinta, Abia State.

3. Lagos Centres:

Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Navy Town Ojo.

Navy Town Secondary School, Navy Town Ojo.

4.Port-Harcourt Centres:

Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Borokiri.

Air Force Secondary School, 115 Special Operations Group, Air Force Base.

5. Sokoto Centre:

Army Day Secondary School, Giginya Barracks.

Documents Required for the Aptitude Test

Applicants are to appear for the Aptitude Test with the following:

1. Photocopies of Degree and NYSC Discharge Certificate.

2. Parent / Guardian Consent Form.

3. Acknowledgement Form.

4. Photocopies of foreign certificates (if any).

Departments and Entry Requirements

Medical

The following healthcare disciplines, along with the necessary entry qualifications, are open:

1. Medical Officer / Dental Surgeon

For medical doctors, the qualifications required are MBBS or MBBCh, and for dental surgeons, it is BDS. All applicants must be duly registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and hold a valid practicing license.

2. Pharmacy

A B.Pharm or Doctor of Pharmacy degree, along with complete registration with the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, is necessary. Additionally, applicants must hold a valid practicing license.

3. Medical Lab Science

Having a BMLS degree and being fully registered with the Medical Laboratory Scientist Council of Nigeria is essential. Additionally, candidates must possess a valid practicing license.

4. Radiographer

BSc in Radiography with current practicing license.

5. Physiotherapy

A B.Physiotherapy or BMR (Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation) degree is required. Applicants must be registered with the Medical Rehabilitation Therapist Registration Board of Nigeria (MRTB) and hold a valid practicing license.

6. Optometry

A Doctor of Optometry is required. Applicants must be fully registered optometrists and dispensing opticians with the Optical Council of Nigeria, holding a valid practicing license.

7. Medical Records/Health Information Management

BSc/HND required with current practicing license.

8. Clinical Psychology

BSc in Clinical Psychology and Applied Psychology, with current practicing license.

9. Biomedical Engineer

BSc/HND in Biomedical Engineering with current practicing license.

10. Public Health Officer

A BSc/HND in either Environmental Health or Community Health Information and Education is necessary.

Candidates must be fully registered with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORCON) and hold a valid practicing license.

11. General Nursing / Midwife

B.NSC RN and RM with current practicing license.

Post basic qualification in any of the following fields will be an added advantage:

  • Accident and Emergency Nurse.
  • Intensive Care Unit Nurse.
  • Peri-Operative Nurse.
  • Ophthalmic Nurse.
  • Dialysis / Renal Nurse.

12. Social Welfare Officer / Nutritionist

BSc, practicing license from relevant regulatory bodies, registered member of the professional board.

13. Occupational Therapist

BSc, practicing license from relevant regulatory bodies, registered member of the professional board.

Engineering

B.Sc or B Eng qualifications in the following fields:

  • Control Engineering.
  • Naval Architecture/Ship Design.
  • Marine Engineering (Mechanical). d. Marine Engineering (Electrical).
  • Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Membership of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria (COREN) will be an added advantage.

Information and Communication Technology

A B.Sc/B.Tech/B.Eng in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is required. Candidates with pertinent qualifications in the following areas will be given priority:

  • Networking and Network Administration.
  • Programming and Software Development.
  • Server and Database Administration.
  • Cyber Security.
  • Computer Forensics/Digital Investigation.
  • Robotics and Artificial Intelligence.
  • Certification in relevant fields will be an added advantage.

Legal Service

An LLB and BL are mandatory. Possessing an LLM in International Maritime Law, International Law, or Forensic Law is considered an additional advantage.
