Winchester Foundation Scholarship

About the Winchester Foundation

The Winchester Foundation is a scholarship program that assists needy regional children and young adults with their further education and helps them with additional costs that all country students must bear.

Mrs Beryl Neilsen established the John & Beryl Neilsen Winchester Foundation as a Public Foundation in 2011. A scholarship is provided to assist the successful recipient with the costs of their studies.

These scholarships are not only available to those pursuing a tertiary degree, but also to those pursuing trades, secondary, and primary education.

Why the Winchester Foundation was Created

These are the reasons why the Winchester Foundation was created:

1. The primary motivation for its establishment is to assist children and youth living in rural and regional areas with their education. Mrs. Neilsen wishes to see rural and regional families given the same opportunities as city families in terms of various levels of education.

2. A scholarship is provided to assist the successful recipient with the costs of their studies. These scholarships are not only available to those pursuing a tertiary degree, but also to those pursuing trades, secondary, and primary education.

3. As a Registered Public Foundation, the foundation can accept tax-deductible donations, which it will then distribute to those in greatest need of assistance to continue their careers.

4. Mrs. Neilsen hopes that recipients of the Foundation’s scholarships will not only be successful in their academic endeavors but will also maintain a lifelong relationship with the Foundation. This will also provide a lasting memorial to her late husband and herself, as well as to their home, “Winchester.”

2. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, a total annual family income of less than $100,000, and a plan to attend a two- or four-year college or technical school.

3. Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the college in January for the second semester of the student’s first year, rather than to the student.
