Women in Stem Scholarships: Are you a female STEM professional who is enthusiastic about your field of study? There are scholarships or an early academic fellowship for you to pursue a master’s degree in the fields of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. Read on for more information.
The goal of this scholarship program is to give more women and girls opportunities in STEM fields. Only 30% of female college students choose STEM-related disciplines, and less than 30% of researchers globally are female, according to data from the UN Scientific Education and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Women in Stem Scholarships
In the fields of engineering, manufacturing, and construction (three percent), natural science, mathematics, and statistics (five percent), and information and communications technology (three percent), female enrollment is especially low (eight percent).
1. Mpower Women in STEM Scholarship
Scholarships are given each year to female international/DACA students who are accepted or enrolled full-time in a STEM degree program at a program Mpower fund in the US or Canada.
Awards:
- Grand Prize: $6,000
- Runner-Up: $2,000
- Honorable Mention: $1,000
Eligibility Requirements
1. Be accepted at, or enrolled in, a full-time degree program at a U.S. or Canadian school that MPOWER supports, and
2. Be an international student allowed to legally study in the U.S. or Canada, as applicable:
3. For study in the U.S., this means that the applicant meets one of these criteria:
- Has a valid visa that permits study in the U.S.
- Is protected under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)
- Is a U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder)
4. For study in Canada, this means the applicant meets one of these criteria:
- Is a Canadian permanent resident
- Has a valid Canadian study permit
Scholarship Period
At 11:59 p.m. EDT on July 15, 2024, the Scholarship expires. The Scholarship Period’s submissions and receipts constitute the only qualifying submissions.
MPOWER is the sole official timekeeper and adjudicator of each Scholarship’s eligibility. Three (3) scholarship winners will be chosen for the entire scholarship period.
The top prize is a $3,000 MPOWER Scholarship that can be used for the winner’s school’s tuition, fees, or other costs (each a “Prize”).
Two more winners will each receive a scholarship worth $1,000 and $500. Students may enter the Scholarship just once (the “Entrants”).

Application Process
This scholarship is created specifically for international and DACA students.
Therefore, U.S. citizens wishing to study in the U.S. and Canadian citizens wishing to study in Canada are not eligible for this scholarship.

2. Microsoft Research Graduate Women’s Scholarship
The goal of the Microsoft Research Graduate Women’s Funding is to encourage more women to pursue PhDs. It is a one-year scholarship program for exceptional female graduate students.
Women who are in their second year of graduate studies are supported by this program. Women who want to apply for this award must do so in their first year of graduate school.
Microsoft Research awards scholarships at the company’s exclusive discretion.
Who is Eligible to Apply
1. Candidates must be recommended by their institutions and have their nominations approved by the department chair’s office in order to be considered for the Microsoft Research Graduate Women’s Scholarship Program. Student-direct applications are not accepted.
2. Student must be a full-time graduate student in the departments of computer science, electrical engineering, or mathematics at a university in the United States or Canada (if your department is within the scope of these areas, but is titled differently, you are eligible).
3. Students must be enrolled in a graduate program in computer science, electrical engineering, or mathematics and be in their first year of study.
- If a student has already completed graduate-level coursework in any subject area, prior to their first year in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics, then the student is not eligible for the Scholarship program.
4. A maximum of three applicants per department, per university, will be accepted. A total of nine applicants total per university will be allowed.
