What are 5 Tips for a Successful Job Interview?

Job interviews may be daunting for most people. But don’t worry, here are a few pointers to get you started:

1. Make a Nice First Impressions:

People judge you in less than two seconds and determine whether or not they like you. Being apprehensive is acceptable, but you also demonstrate that you are confident in your ability to do the duties of the job.

Be courteous, thank them for inviting you to the interview, and appear confident! Also, don’t try to dazzle your interviewers by using unnecessarily technical language or jargon; they’ll see straight through you.

2. Be Truthful, but Keep Your Responses Relevant:

In high-pressure circumstances, we have a tendency to ramble and get off subject. It is normal to be eager and over share when asked to explain your accomplishments, hobbies, or interests.

But keep in mind why you’re there! You’ve come to work! So make sure everything you say is relevant to the work at hand!

Speaking more than one language, for example, is nearly always a desired feature in a potential job, so if you know more than one language, mention it, but tie it to your work!

3. Do Not Go Into an Interview Thinking About What You Should Avoid:

The mind is an extremely strong tool. Focusing on what you should say rather than what you should avoid saying will cause your brain to remember ‘what you should say’ instead.

4. Ask Questions:

It is typical for the interview panel to ask the interviewees questions. They typically view strong questions as the hallmark of a strong applicant, so pay attention to the interviewers.

Also, ask pertinent questions to learn more about things like the team you’ll be working with or any specific obligations your job may have.

5. Do Not be Scared to Use Your Social Networks:

Being well-connected will always benefit you, whether now or in the future. If you have a large professional network, wonderful; make use of it if you want to get a new career.

If you don’t, make an appealing profile on LinkedIn, Jobstreet, or another job-searching website and apply.

You may even send a direct message to a company’s decision makers on LinkedIn, introducing yourself and explaining why you’re messaging him/her.

Sure, you’re unlikely to receive a response, but there’s no harm in trying. You miss all the shots you don’t take, as my mother used to say.
