To eligible families, the Office of Student Financial Aid & Scholarships additionally offers need-based financial aid.

Texas Tech Scholarship has different scholarships which they use in assisting families in finding any and all ways to relieve financial strain. Academic colleges and departments also offer rewards for athletics, band, choral singing, fine arts, and departmental achievements.

Scholarships for Incoming Freshmen

To help lower the cost of your education at Texas Tech, the university provides a number of general and merit-based scholarship programs.

As you begin your senior year of high school, you can start applying for scholarships. Please apply as soon as you can to Texas Tech to enhance your chances of receiving an academic award.

You are urged to look for outside scholarships that can increase your award.

General Scholarships

Students that apply for admission to Texas Tech University are also considered for general scholarships.

Please submit your admission application as soon as possible to improve your chances of receiving a scholarship. To be considered for admission and scholarships, submit an application using Apply Texas or the Common App.

The application deadline for priority scholarships is December 1. After this date, applications will be evaluated in the order they are received.

Presidential Merit Scholarships

Freshmen arriving for the first time who demonstrate excellent academic performance are given Presidential Merit Scholarships.

Annual award payments are split equally between the autumn and spring terms. If you receive a Presidential Scholarship but are not a resident of the state, you are also eligible to pay in-state tuition.

For students who are accepted by May 1st, all merit awards are guaranteed. The reward must be accepted before May 1st. Scholarships are not available to TTU Costa Rica students.

National Merit Finalists

It is possible to receive 100% of the federally approved cost of attendance, which includes tuition, fees, housing and board, books, transportation, and a personal/miscellaneous allowance, for qualified students who choose Texas Tech University as their top choice college.

External Scholarships

There are billions of dollars of external scholarship money available to students of all qualifications, abilities, and interests.

These external scholarships may be provided by private donors, foundations, businesses, and many other sources outside of Texas Tech University.

Scholarships for Transfer Students

Students awarded a transfer-level scholarship of $2,500 for 3 years can be upgraded to a Presidential Transfer or Proven Achiever’s level scholarship based on updated transcript information received prior to the first class day of the student’s entry semester.

Students are eligible for only one university-level transfer scholarship.

More Information About Transfer Scholarships

According to official transcripts provided to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, transfer scholarships are made available to students who are accepted as transfer students and pay for both the autumn and spring terms.

Complete criteria as soon as possible; final awards are based on transcripts received by January 15 for spring admission terms or July 31 for fall entry terms.

Non-residents (including Proven Achievers) who receive a Texas Tech competitive scholarship of $1,000 or more are eligible to pay in-state tuition.

Scholarships for Continuing Undergraduate Students

Earning a scholarship for next year starts now. Strive for doing the best you can in the classroom! The university application for current students allows students to apply for over 4,000 internal scholarships with one application.

The scholarship application opens annually in October and closes on February 1st.
