Apple has a closely knit ecosystem, and AirPlay is how it allows the material to be shared and streamed from one device to another. If you wish to know how to turn off airplay, then read this article.

How to Turn Off Airplay

You can transfer any type of anything, including audio, video, photographs, and other files, from your mobile device and cast it to the latter if you own an iPhone and an AirPlay-compatible device.

Any display or speaker that supports Apple AirPlay can receive material that you cast from your iPhone using AirPlay, including a Mac, Apple TV, and other devices.

The following post should assist you in disabling the app on your iPhone if you’re someone who doesn’t use this app frequently or at all.

How to Turn off AirPlay on your iPhone

By switching the playback back to your iPhone rather than the device you are casting to, you can disable AirPlay on your iPhone in a number of different ways.

1. Using Control Center’s Screen Mirroring Option

You can disable this app on the iPhone via the Control Center if a video is playing on an AirPlay-compatible device through your iPhone or if your iPhone’s screen is being mirrored onto another display. Launch the Control Center on your iPhone to do this:

  • On iPhone X, XS, 11, 12, and 13 – Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen.
  • On iPhone SE, 8, 7, 6, and older – Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.
  • Find the Screen Mirroring option when the Control Center opens. The Screen Mirroring will be indicated if AirPlay is in use. Tap on this Screen Mirroring tile in the Control Center to halt AirPlay.
  • The device where the material is streaming should be visible in the overflow menu that appears. Tap Stop Mirroring to disable AirPlay.
  • Immediately the media should stop playing on the AirPlay-enabled device.

2. Using Control Center’s Media Player

You can disable AirPlay on your iPhone by using the media player in the Control Center to cast audio from your iPhone to an AirPlay device. Launch the Control Center on your iPhone to do this:

  • On iPhone X, XS, 11, 12, and 13 – Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen.
  • On iPhone SE, 8, 7, 6, and older – Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.
  • A media player may be found in the top right corner of the Control Center when it first opens. The song or media title and the artist’s name are displayed by this player. The AirPlay icon in the top right corner should glow blue if this media is being streamed via AirPlay.
  • Tap on the AirPlay symbol in the media player to end AirPlay.
  • An overflow menu with the AirPlay device you are streaming to highlighted under “Speakers & TVs” should appear.
  • Choose iPhone from this overflow menu to disable Airplay so that the media only plays on your device.

3. Using the Apple TV app

You may disable AirPlay right inside the Apple TV app if you use it to stream movies and TV shows.

The AirPlay icon inside the playback controls on the screen will be highlighted in blue if you are actively playing something on the Apple TV app on your iPhone to an AirPlay device.

Tap on the icon in the bottom left corner to disable AirPlay.

Now, under “Speakers & TVs,” you ought to see an overflow menu displaying the AirPlay device that is currently playing the media.

By tapping on iPhone on this overflow menu, you can disable AirPlay.

The AirPlay-capable TV will now stop playing the content.

You can disable AirPlay playback if the Apple TV app is already configured to do so by first tapping the blue AirPlay symbol in the top left corner.

You should be able to see that the selected AirPlay device has been set to automatically play whatever you play on the Apple TV on your phone in the overflow menu that appears. From this overflow menu, select Play on iPhone to turn this off.

The Apple TV app on your iPhone will now play any material you play in the future, rather than automatically streaming over the app.

4. Using the Apple Music App

If you’re listening to something using the Apple Music app via AirPlay, you can turn it off from the app itself. To do that, open the Apple Music app and go to the playback screen.

If this app is active, you should see iPhone <AirPlay device> under the AirPlay icon at the bottom. To turn off AirPlay inside Apple Music, tap on its icon at the bottom.

In the overflow menu that appears, you’ll see your device appear selected under “Speakers & TVs”.

To turn off AirPlay, tap on iPhone in this menu.

This should disable it from playing your content from your iPhone to another device.

5. From the iOS Lock Screen

You can tweak AirPlay in your iPhone’s settings to disable it and prevent it from automatically connecting to your TV whenever you play something.

  • Open the Settings app on iOS and select General to get started.
  • Select AirPlay & Handoff under General.
  • Then select Automatically AirPlay to TVs on the following screen.
  • Depending on how you want to utilize this app on your TV, choose Never or Ask here.
  • I’m done now. From this point on, your TV will no longer automatically play material from your iPhone.
