About FCT College of Education ZUBA

In 1996, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) established a committee composed of members from the Department of Education FCDA.

The committee’s mandate was to develop a plan for the establishment of a College of Education. Their recommendations resulted in the creation of the FCT College of Education, initially situated at the former Teachers College Zuba.

The primary goal of the College was to provide high-quality teacher education, addressing contemporary challenges in the Nigerian educational system, especially in training teachers for Science and Nigerian Languages at the primary school level.

Mr. B.L. Banda, a Deputy Director from the Education Department FCDA, assumed the role of the 1st Provost of the College.

Simultaneously, Alhaji A.G. Zakari, the Principal of the now-defunct Teachers’ College, was appointed as the Registrar. The College’s initial teaching and administrative staff were selected from secondary schools within the FCT.

In May 2000, the College underwent temporary closure for reorganization and restructuring, with the aim of enhancing effectiveness in academic administration. Subsequently, in April 2001, it reopened with increased high-level personnel and material resources.

Dr. Umma Abdulwahid, a Deputy Director in the Education Department of the Federal Capital Territory overseeing Schools and Higher Education, was appointed as the new Provost. Alhaji Kabiru Isa, another Deputy Director, assumed the role of Registrar.
