Dr. Juan Andrade Scholarship is a program of financial aid for students who deserve it, the scholarship is organized by the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute (USHLI). This award aims to motivate Hispanic students who have the desire to become selfless leaders.

About Dr. Juan Andrade Scholarship

Students from underprivileged backgrounds have received more than $1.5 million in scholarships and internships from USHLI since 1982.

The Dr. Juan Andrade Jr. Scholarship for Young Hispanic Leaders is particularly noteworthy because it honors Hispanic students who share Dr. Andrade’s lifelong dedication to servant leadership.

A non-renewable academic prize for undergraduate students ($1,000 for a 4-year university or $500 for a 2-year institution) will be given to the winners.

Scholarship Qualifications

Applications must show a genuine need for financial assistance and be accepted for enrollment as full-time undergraduate students at a recognized four-year or two-year college in the United States or one of its territories.

There must be at least one parent with Hispanic ancestry.

The DACA or Undocumented applications are open to non-U.S. citizens. Undergraduate applicants must be registered full-time for the academic year running from Fall 2023 to Spring 2024.

Seniors in high school, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors in college up to age 25 are included in this.

1. Essay requirements (leadership and background essays must be completed)

Tell us some background information: Send in a 500–1,000 word self-description that includes information about your family history (parents/guardians, siblings), life events, and/or employment that have inspired you.

Finally, what is your greatest accomplishment? Have you conquered any difficulties or obstacles? How, if so?

Essay on Leadership: Write a 500–1,000 word essay discussing the future of Latinx (Hispanics) in America, the type of leadership required, and whatever part you plan to play in supplying that leadership.

How would this help your neighborhood? What can USHLI do to support your goal-achieving?

Optional Essay: What else would you like to add to your optional essay that would be pertinent to our decision to accept your application for this scholarship?

2. Required Documents

Portrait Photo: Applicants must upload a current portrait photo that is high-resolution, color, and 2.5 × 3.5 ratios in either PNG, JPG, or GIF format.

The image (headshot) should be appropriate for use in any printed materials notifying the beneficiaries. No selfies are permitted.

Resume: Applicants must provide a one-page PDF resume in PDF format detailing their employment history, academic achievements, and other pertinent data.

Unofficial Transcript: Applicants must submit their most recent transcript (high school transcripts are required for freshmen in college). All transcripts must be sent in the form of a PDF file.

3. References

Letters of Recommendation: Candidates must submit two (2) letters of recommendation that match the qualifications listed below:

  • The letters should highlight the candidate’s leadership qualities and previous academic achievements while also demonstrating a capacity for or desire to provide meaningful community service.
  • You must include your references’ contact information on the application. Your references will receive email instructions on how to submit a letter of recommendation on your behalf once your application has been filed.

They need two references: one from a professional or community service environment, and one from an academic source. Teachers, advisors, supervisors, employers, coaches, and others are just a few examples.
