African American Scholarships: The majority of incoming college students are concerned about affordability. Unfortunately, there is a huge racial difference in the financial aid and support provided to Black and African American students. Read on for more information.
These figures highlight the significance of scholarships for Black students. Financial aid for Black students can reduce their reliance on debt and balance the expense of a college education.
African American Scholarships Programme
Fortunately, there are several scholarships and financial aid alternatives available to help Black and African American students graduate and get degrees.
Several organizations offer even more specific scholarships for Black women and students in STEM.
Dr. Barbara Odom-Wesley Spirit of Achievement Scholarship
Scholarship Amount: $3000
This scholarship may be used at any two or four-year College or University. (Trade, Technical, and Cosmetology Schools are ineligible.)
Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
African-American female high school senior attending school in Tarrant County or Grand Prairie, Texas:
1. Minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale
2. Involvement in extracurricular activities
3. Community Service
4. Demonstrated Leadership
5. Completed Scholarship Application with supporting documents uploaded
6. An Official High School transcript (Non-weighted grade point average on a 4.0 scale) submitted by your high school counselor

Application and all supporting materials are due by February 14, 2024.
Albert W. Dent Graduate Student Scholarship
This award was created by the American College of Healthcare Executives Foundation in memory of Albert W. Dent, the organization’s first African-American Fellow.
This grant is available to help racially and ethnically diverse students in healthcare management graduate programs with their tuition, student loans, and other fees.
The Albert W. Dent Graduate Student Scholarship is given each year to racially and ethnically diverse students who are enrolled in their last year of a graduate degree in healthcare administration.
The value of each scholarship is $5,000. ACHE offers up to 15 scholarships annually, including the Dent and McGaw awards.
Application Deadline
The application for the 2024 scholarship has closed. Applications for 2024 will be accepted between Jan. 3 and Mar. 31, 2024.
All 2024 applicants will be notified about the status of their application by letter in July 2024.
National Black MBA Association Scholarship
The NBMBAA® Graduate Scholarship Program awards tuition assistance to students who demonstrate academic excellence, and exceptional leadership potential, and are actively involved in their local communities through service to others.
Type: Undergraduate and Graduate
Amount: Up to $5,000
Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
1. In order to be considered for the NBMBAA® Undergraduate or Graduate Scholarships, you must first complete the NBMBAA® scholarship application.
2. Only applicants that are being considered will receive follow-up from the scholarship committee.
3. Be a financially active member of the National Black MBA Association®.
4. Be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident.
5. Be a graduate student enrolled full-time in an accredited graduate business degree program at the time of award (September of each year).
6. Submit an essay on the provided topic.
7. Submit a current resume.
8. Have a 3.0 or above GPA.
9. Demonstrate academic excellence.
10. Demonstrate exceptional leadership potential.
11. Be actively involved in their local communities through service to others.
12. All scholarship applicants must have an NBMBAA Membership that is in active financial status. Applicants that are not current members of the NBMBAA will be denied.
13. Students must submit a resume.

The Phyllis G. Meekins Scholarship
Scholarship Amount: $5,000
The LPGA Foundation and the Phyllis G. Meekins Scholarship Fund jointly award the Phyllis G. Meekins Scholarship each year.
The Phyllis G. Meekins Scholarship was created in 2006 with the goal of awarding a need-based scholarship to a female high school senior from a recognized minority background who plans to pursue a full-time academic program while competing in collegiate golf at an accredited college or university in the United States.
The Phyllis G. Meekins Scholarship is given to a high school senior from a recognized minority background who plans to play golf at the collegiate level. It is based on financial needs.
All scholarships require applicants to have outstanding academic records, volunteer experience, and recommendations. In 2023, there will be two $5,000 scholarships given out.

BLM² Foundation Scholarship
The BLM² Scholarship Foundation program is designed to address the financial needs of minority college students and award outstanding high school graduates who plan to earn a baccalaureate degree from an accredited, four-year college or university with financial assistance.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for a BLM² Foundation Scholarship, an applicant must:
1. Plan to attend an accredited college or university within the United States.
2. Be a graduating high school senior in the year of the award.
3. Must be a permanent US Citizen.
4. Must hold a high school Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
5. Must be enrolled as a full-time student during the Fall Academic Semester of the award.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship
Each award is intended to cover a significant share of the student’s educational expenses – including tuition, living expenses, books, and required fees for the final two to three years necessary to achieve a bachelor’s degree.
Awards vary by individual, based on the cost of tuition as well as other grants or scholarships they may receive. This highly competitive scholarship includes:
- Up to $55,000 per year to attend a four-year accredited undergraduate school.
- Ability to pursue any area of study.
- Personal advising about selecting a college and navigating financial aid.
- Multifaceted advising about how to transition to a four-year college and maximize the student experience.
- Opportunity to apply for the Internship Stipend program, Conference and Travel Stipend, and Graduate Scholarship.
Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation
Students in their senior year of high school are eligible for the achievement-based Coke Scholars Program scholarship.
The ability of students to lead and serve, as well as their dedication to having a substantial positive impact on their schools and communities, are honored.
The Foundation will have invested more than $78 million towards the education of more than 6,600 Coke Scholars by the time the 34th class is enrolled in 2024.
This $20,000 prize is awarded to 150 Coke Scholars each year. In March 2024, the 35th class will be announced.

Application for the 2024 Coke Scholars is currently closed. A little over 90,000 students applied! In the middle to end of November, applicants who move on to step 2 as Semifinalists will be informed.
