International Scholarships for Nigerian Students: Nigerian students can study abroad on a variety of scholarships. Here are some scholarships to take into consideration, either for this year’s application or next year’s, if you’re one of the many Nigerian students hoping to pursue your undergraduate or master’s degree overseas.

The undergraduate scholarship program’s goal is to help new college entrants and those who are still applying for admission complete their bachelor’s degrees in Nigeria or abroad.

Universities in Nigeria are attended by many Nigerians. Others, nevertheless, continue their education abroad on their own dime or on scholarships offered by foreign governments. The list of scholarships below is open to Nigerian students.

1. Amsterdam Talent Scholarships (ATS)

All students are encouraged to apply!

Amsterdam Talent Scholarships (ATS) are open at Hogeschool van Amsterdam, University of Applied Sciences, or Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, for the class of 2023-2024.

International students may now apply for Amsterdam Talent Scholarships (ATS) at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences if they have finished all 60 credits* with a minimum grade point average of 7.0.

The scholarships for the upcoming class have been officially announced by the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.

Scholarship Benefit

Degree Level

Fully Funded Amsterdam Talent Scholarship (ATS) 2024 is available to undertake Undergraduate, Graduate, and Postgraduate level programs at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.

Eligibility Criteria

All Nationalities application is allowed. An applicant must meet the eligibility criteria for the ATS. The applicant should:

1. Be able to meet the conditions to obtain a Dutch visa (if applicable)

2. Be enrolled in one of the programs of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences

3. Have paid the institutional tuition fee for non-EEA students

4. Not receive a full coverage scholarship covering the same period of studies

5. Have obtained all 60 credits* in the completed academic year, with a minimum average grade of 7,0

Application Procedure

Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria for the ATS can download the application form.

After filling in all required data on the application form, the form should be submitted to the appropriate ATS contact person (contact details included on this page under Contacts for ATS), together with a copy of your residence permit (front and back) and a certified grade list for the present academic year. You can make a request for the grade list at the education office.

After completion of a full year of studies on August 31, applicants should submit their applications for ATS to the appropriate ATS contact person before December 31 of the same year.

2. Semper Solaris Scholarships

Benefits: College Students will have 4 opportunities each year to win a top prize of $3000 or a 2nd place prize of $1750.

3. Gates Scholarships

Gates Cambridge Scholarships were established in October 2000. And it was by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This was following a donation of US$210m to the University of Cambridge.

The aim was to encourage outstanding postgraduate students from the world over to study at the University. Also, it is one of the UK scholarships for Nigerian students.

However, applicants must come from countries outside the UK. And must be willing to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge.

Scholarship Value: It covers the full cost of studying at the University. And there are no restrictions on country of origin or subjects to be studied. However, this is so long as it is at a postgraduate level.

 Eligibilities

1. Applicants must come from countries outside the UK. And must have outstanding intellectual ability.

2. Also, must have leadership potential. And a commitment to improving the lives of others.

Application Details

You can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship if you are:

1. A citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom

2. Applying to pursue one of the following courses at the University of Cambridge:

3. Ph.D. (full-time or part-time*)

4. MLitt (full-time)

5. One-year postgraduate course (full-time), with some exceptions – see below:

* For October 2024 entry, Gates Cambridge is piloting a scheme that allows applicants to apply for funding for a part-time doctoral degree.

  • Current Student at Cambridge?​

You can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship if you are a current Cambridge student who wants to enroll in a new postgraduate program.

For instance, you can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to pursue a Ph.D. if you are currently pursuing an MPhil. Current Gates Cambridge Scholars who are pursuing a new degree may also apply for a second fellowship.

In the second, worldwide round, all current Cambridge students will be taken into consideration. However, you cannot apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to pay for the remaining portion of a degree that you have already begun (for example, if you are halfway through a Ph.D.).

4. Leiden University Excellence Scholarships (LexS)

This scholarship is open to outstanding  Non-EU/EEA students. However, they must be enrolling in a full-time master’s degree program at Leiden University.

Scholarship Value: €10.000 – €15.000 tuition fee.

Eligibility

Students must have achieved excellent study results in their previous education. Also, must have a non-EEA.

Application process

1. Apply online and, if necessary, pay the application cost for admission to a master’s program at Leiden University.

2. Indicate that you want to apply for a LExS in the area of your online application that is for scholarships.

3. According to the instructions in your online application, upload your LExS motivation letter. You must submit a PDF document with a maximum of 500 words explaining why you should be given the award.

4. Before the LExS application deadline, submit your online application, which includes your LExS application.

5. Upload an LExS motivation letter for each study program for which you wish to apply for an LExS if you apply for more than one study program.

Application Conditions

Applicants must have a non-EEA/non-EFTA* passport and may not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans (Studiefinanciering) – with the exceptions of students applying for the programs listed below, for which no nationality restrictions apply:

  • All LLM Advanced Studies programs
  • MSc in International Relations and Diplomacy

Selection Process

The faculty selection committees will nominate LExS recipients and inform the Scholarships Team, up to 6 weeks after the LExS deadline.

The Scholarships Team will notify all LExS applicants of the decisions:

  • At the end of November – for the February intake.
  • At the end of April – for the September intake.

5. Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship to Study in Canada

With the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship, students from underserved and underrepresented communities can be encouraged to pursue careers in computer science.

With a yearly grant for up to four years, the scholarship program offers students the chance to advance their professions.

Aim and Benefits of Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship

Entrance scholarships will be available at the bachelor’s level. These scholarships are valued at $7,500 CAD per academic year, available for up to four years.

Requirements for Scholarship Qualification

To be considered for the Engineering Scholarship, interested applicants are to meet the following requirements:

1. Graduating high school (outside of Quebec) or CEGEP (in Quebec) in 2023

2. Entering full-time studies in a first bachelor’s starting fall 2023

3. Pursuing a Computer Science related degree

4. Employees and immediate family members of Amazon.com and its subsidiaries are not eligible to apply.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic performance, experience with computer science, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, unusual personal or family circumstances, financial need, and racial/ethnic/gender diversity.
