While MHRD directly administers national-level scholarships, external scholarships are overseen by foreign countries through educational and cultural exchange programs.

1. AICTE Pragati Scholarship for Girls
Type: National Level
Application Period: Between August and October
Eligibility Criteria
- Female students admitted to the first year or second year (through lateral entry) of a diploma/degree program at an AICTE-recognized institution.
- The family’s annual income should not exceed INR 8 lakh from all sources.
- Applicable for up to two female children per family.
Application Process: Apply online through the official website of AICTE Pragati Saksham.
Rewards
INR 50,000 per year to cover college fees, expenses for purchasing computers, stationeries, books, equipment, software, and related items.
2. Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students
Type: National Level
Application Period: Between July and October
Eligibility Criteria
- Enrolled in a regular course at Colleges/Institutions recognized by AICTE and relevant Regulatory Bodies.
- Scored above the 80th percentile among successful candidates in the Class 12 board examination or its equivalent.
- Annual family income should not exceed INR 4.5 lakh, and no other scholarship should be availed.
Application Process: Apply online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
Rewards
- INR 10,000 per year for undergraduate (graduation) level.
- INR 20,000 per year for the postgraduate level.
- INR 20,000 per year for a 5-year professional course, specifically in the 4th and 5th years.
3. National Means Cum Merit Scholarship
Type: National Level
Application Period: Between July and October
Eligibility Criteria
- Students are studying in Class 9 at Government, Government-aided, and local body schools.
- Minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grades in both Class 9 and Class 10.
- Annual family income should not exceed INR 3.5 lakh from all sources (with 5% relaxation for SC/ST students).
Application Process: Apply online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
4. AICTE-Saksham Scholarship Scheme
Type: National Level
Application Period: Between August and October
Eligibility Criteria
- Students with disabilities (disability level should be 40% or higher).
- Admitted to the first year of a technical degree/diploma course at an AICTE-recognized institution.
- Total annual family income should not exceed INR 8 lakh from all sources.
Application Process: Apply online through the official website of AICTE Pragati Saksham.
Selection Process: Based on academic merit.
5. Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships
Type: External
Application Period: Between February and March
Eligibility Criteria
- Indian citizens born on or after 2nd April 1999.
- Completed 12 years of schooling in countries other than Japan.
- Proficiency in Japanese and willingness to learn it.
- Submission of a health certificate in the prescribed format.
- Plan to arrive in Japan between 1st April 2024 and 7th April 2024 with a newly issued student visa.
Important Notes
1. Preference is given to candidates proficient in Japanese.
2. Eligible candidates must meet the conditions by March 2024.
3. Military personnel or military civilian employees are not eligible.
4. Students already awarded MEXT scholarships are not eligible.
5. Candidates unable to arrive in Japan on the last date of joining the host institution are not eligible.
6. Enrolled students in other MEXT programs or with ‘student’ visas in Japan are not eligible.
7. Students with existing ‘student’ visas and enrolled in institutions/universities in Japan are not eligible.
8. Candidates planning to apply for or have received scholarships from other organizations in Japan are not eligible.
