How to Turn off Announce Messages on Airpods: When you’re wearing your AirPods or compatible Beats headphones, Siri can announce incoming notifications from apps such as Messages and Reminders, and from supported third-party apps. Then you can reply instantly, hands-free.

How to Turn Announce Notifications Off

Using your iPhone or iPad, you can disable the feature. Although it’s a little hidden in the Settings menu, you can manage Siri announcements by following a few straightforward steps.

1. Select Notifications from the Settings menu.

2. To disable the feature, tap on Announce notifications.

You’re ready to go after that! There is no longer a concern that Siri will overload your AirPods with notifications such as texts, reminders, and other alerts.

You can toggle off the Headphones option under Announce When Connected To if you don’t want to entirely disable the feature.

Siri will only now make announcements of notifications via CarPlay (if your car supports it). But you can also disable that setting. This is how:

1. Select CarPlay under Announce Notifications.

2. Disable Announce Messages.

Additionally, you can choose to add a tile to the Control Center so that you can easily turn it on and off without having to trawl through the Settings menu. The tile can be added by:

1. Select Control Center from the Settings menu.

2. Go to More Controls to Announce Notifications by scrolling down.

3. Push the button with the green plus sign.

It will then show up in the Included Controls section after being added. You’ll also see the tile whenever you swipe down to the Control Center. You can tap on it from there to switch it on and off as necessary.

How to Enable and Customize Announce Notifications

Let’s make sure you have the appropriate devices before we go into how to activate the feature. You’ll need one of these compatible headphones in addition to an iPhone or iPad running iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 correspondingly.

  • AirPods (second-generation) or later
  • AirPods Pro
  • AirPods Max
  • Beat Fits Pro
  • Beats Solo Pro
  • Powerbeats
  • Powerbeats Pro

Siri announcements can be enabled in the same manner as Siri itself. But if you skipped that step, then do the following:

1. Select Notifications from the Settings menu.

2. Toggle the functionality by tapping on Announce notifications.

Voilà! Now, almost all of the notifications that arrive on your iPhone or iPad will be read aloud by Siri. The feature can be customized in a variety of ways after being enabled.

You can choose whether you want Siri to Announce New Messages, Silence New Messages, or Remember Previous Settings starting with CarPlay (this will use the announcement setting from the last time you drove).

The Reply Without Confirmation tool is another choice you have. Before sending your message, Siri will read it back to you if the app you’re using supports replies.

You can turn it off if you don’t want to double-check your messages before sending them. Last but not least, you have discretion over which apps Siri announces notifications from.

Apps that support the feature, both native and third-party, are listed toward the bottom. To turn on the Announce Notifications option, browse through and tap on each app.

In this way, you may slightly limit the number of notifications Siri announces in your AirPods if you do want it to.
