The University of Waterloo is a public research institution with its main campus located in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The main campus is situated next to Waterloo Park in uptown Waterloo on 404 hectares (998 acres) of land.
About the University of Waterloo
This institution runs four associated university colleges and three satellite campuses. Thirteen faculty-based schools and six faculties oversee the university’s academic offerings.
At Waterloo, the university offers the biggest co-op program in the world for post-secondary education, with over 20,000 undergraduate students enrolled.
Waterloo is a part of the U15, a consortium of Canadian universities that prioritize research.
The Waterloo College Associate Faculties, a semi-autonomous organization of Waterloo College, a University of Western Ontario affiliate, was the original source of the institution. It was founded on April 4, 1956.
After officially severing ties with Waterloo College, this organization was established as a university in 1959 when the Ontario Legislative Assembly passed the University of Waterloo Act.
It was founded to meet the demand for technicians and engineers to train for Canada’s expanding postwar economy.
The following ten years saw significant expansion, with the addition of a college of arts in 1960 and the relocation of the College of Optometry of Ontario (now the School of Optometry and Vision Science) from Toronto.
Admission Process at Waterloo University
Given differences in marking schemes, entrance standards are different for students from Ontario, other Canadian provinces, and overseas students.
Each year, the number of qualified candidates and available spots are used to determine the minimum averages needed for these programs.
In 2016, the percentage of first-year full-time students at the University of Waterloo who attended secondary school was 90.1%.
2018 saw a high school graduation rate of 61.2 per cent of new students at Waterloo having an average of at least 90 per cent and 28.2 per cent having an average of at least 95 per cent.
However, this percentage differs significantly between the university’s programs.
When it comes to admission to the faculties of engineering and math, an applicant’s supplementary application, extracurricular activities, high school adjustment criteria, and admissions video interview are heavily weighted.
As a result, you could get an offer with a significantly lower average than the average for admittance. In 2016, 93.9 per cent of first-time, full-time first-year students at the university were retained.

Faculties and Schools of the University of Waterloo
Waterloo is a member of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada and a publicly financed research institution.
With autumn, winter, and spring terms, it runs on a term-based basis. 24,377 full-time and part-time undergraduate students make up the bulk of the school’s enrollment in undergraduate programs.
During the 2016–2017 academic year, the institution awarded 5,741 bachelor’s degrees, 1,605 master’s degrees, 332 doctoral degrees, and first professional degrees.
The university is divided into six faculties, each of which oversees more than fifty academic departments and thirteen schools.

In 2025, the coeducational university will have about 40,000 undergraduate and 8o00 graduate students enrolled.
Many award winners, public servants, and corporate titans have ties to Waterloo; its alumni and former students may be found all around Canada and in more than 150 other countries.
The Waterloo Warriors, who represent Waterloo on varsity teams, play in the U Sports Ontario University Athletics conference.
