Originally established as the Civic College in Helsinki in 1925, the University of Tampere offers courses in journalism, organization management, and public administration.
With 195 enrolled students, the College’s name was changed to the School of Social Sciences in 1930.
The institution’s scope developed to include civic education, public law, child protection, and municipal administration. The first faculty was formed in 1949 and was called the Faculty of Social Sciences.
With 933 students enrolled by 1960, the School of Social Sciences relocated to Tampere. In 1966, the organization changed its name to the University of Tampere.
