About Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, popularly known as ATBU, is a Federal University of Technology in Nigeria’s northern region.

Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, the first Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, was the inspiration for ATBU.

The Federal University of Technology, Bauchi, was established in 1980 and was known at the time.

The motto of this illustrious school is “Doctrina Mater ARTIUM,” which translates to “Education is the Mother of the Practical Arts” in English.

In October 1981, the college began accepting students for remedial and pre-degree programs.

Meanwhile, the School of Science and Science Education began offering degree programs the next year, in October 1982.

Later, Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria joined the university. On October 1, 1984, the college changed its name to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa College, Ahmadu Bello University, Bauchi campus.

The institution recovered its autonomous status four years later, in 1988, as a part of the broader demerger of institutions.

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Faculties

ATBU has seven faculties that provide courses in 44 subject areas and degrees in 401 areas of specialty at the diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate diploma (PGD), master’s, and doctoral levels.

The Faculties are distributed throughout the University’s two campuses as follows: the Faculty of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (FAAT), which was the first to be relocated to Gubi Campus, and the Faculty of Technology Education are located on the Main (or Gubi) Campus (FTE).

The Faculty of Management Science (FMS) and the College of Medical Sciences are the two faculties on the Gubi Campus.

The Yelwa Campus houses the Faculty of Engineering & Engineering Technology (FEET), the Faculty of Environmental Technology (FET), and the Faculty of Science.

The Postgraduate School, the Directorate of Remedial Studies, the Center of Entrepreneurial Studies, and others are among the University’s various academic institutions.

How to Gain Admission Into ATBU

3. To get admitted to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, candidates must score at least 160 in the recently concluded JAMB UTME examination.

4. ATBU should be your first choice of college.

5. To be eligible for admission if any is available for the year, you must participate in ATBU POST UTME/SCREENING.

6. Candidates must be at least 16 years old.

ATBU Requirements For Direct Entry (DE) 2023/2024

Below are the requirements for candidates that wish to gain admission into Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University through Direct Entry:

1. A minimum of 5 Ordinary Level Credits in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (SSCE/GCE) in a maximum of two sittings.

2. Candidates must have passed two subjects relating to their field of study at ‘A’ level/IJMB.

3. Passes in related topics at JUPEB/A’ Level.

4. For your course of choice, a degree (First Class/Second Class Upper) in a related discipline is required.

5. Direct admission students must acquire an ATBU Direct Entry form from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the ATBU Portal.

6. A Merit Pass in the National Certificate of Education (NCE), National Diploma (ND), and other Advanced Level Certificates is required.
