This guide will discuss the QuestBridge National College Match and the various scholarships available to high school juniors and seniors.

What is QuestBridge?

The QuestBridge Scholarship program started with eight students at Stanford University, founded by Marc Lawrence and Michael McCullough to provide opportunities for low-income California students to pursue a high-quality medical education.

It expanded into a residency program involving over twenty medical students annually. In 1994, Ana Rowena Mallari joined the board, transforming SYMSP into Quest, incorporating leadership and community outreach training for first-generation college students.

Six years later, the program expanded to Harvard University and started accepting students from various disciplines. As it grew, more alumni joined the staff, eventually evolving into QuestBridge.

The number of partner schools increased from two to seven, and within two years, 26 colleges joined, aiming to recruit high-achieving, low-income students.

Today, the QuestBridge Scholarship and National College Match continue to help these students access elite colleges.

Types of QuestBridge Scholarships

Below are the types of QuestBridge Scholarships:

1. QuestBridge College Prep Scholarships

The QuestBridge College Prep Scholarship assists high school juniors in starting the college application process early.

Many recipients of this scholarship become QuestBridge finalists through the National College Match program, designed for students who often don’t qualify for other awards.

2. QuestBridge National College Match

This program provides full scholarships for students who match with a QuestBridge partner college, offering early admission and covering the full cost of attendance.

Open to high school seniors, applicants must meet specific financial eligibility criteria.

QuestBridge Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

QuestBridge College Prep Scholarship Requirements:

High school junior
Attend high school in the U.S. or be a U.S. citizen attending high school abroad
Plan to apply for college in the fall of their senior year
Demonstrate strong academic performance (mostly A’s and B’s in rigorous courses)
Demonstrate financial need (typically with a family income of less than $65,000)
Typically, strong extracurricular involvement and awards or recognitions through school or community, and often the first in their families to attend college

QuestBridge National College Match Requirements:

High school senior applying to college in the following year
Attend high school in the U.S. or be a U.S. citizen attending high school abroad
Submit the QuestBridge application by the deadline (usually late September)
Demonstrate strong academic performance (mostly A’s and B’s in rigorous courses)
Showcase strong writing skills in the application
Demonstrate financial need (typically with a family income of less than $65,000)
Typically high achievers and often the first in their families to attend college

Both programs review applications holistically, without strict GPA or standardized test score requirements, and while most applicants come from households earning less than $65,000 per year, there is no fixed income requirement.

Each application is reviewed independently, ensuring a broad selection process.
