The committee on a roadmap for the educational development of Yobe state, whose subcommittee on higher education published the report expressing the need for a university in Yobe.

Suggested the honourable proposal of building a state university in Damaturu to the state administration.

It became clear that a sizable number of potential university applicants would emerge seeking admission into the university in Yobe.

This was a result of the NUC’s encouragement of state and private organizations to establish functional universities and the rapid growth of post-primary and tertiary institutions in the state.

The state, led by His Excellency Governor Bukar Abba Ibrahim, decided to build the Bukar Abba Ibrahim University and appointed Professor Muhammad Nur Alkali as Chairman of the planning committee right away.
