Gilman Scholarship: Overview
The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program of the United States Department of State provides financial aid to students who face significant financial barriers to studying abroad.
It also offers additional financing for programs that study a specified language judged “critical need” by the United States State Department.
As part of CIEE’s aim to promote study abroad opportunities, we are pleased to present the Gilman Go Global Grant to both Gilman Scholars and Gilman candidates.
This grant provides additional financing for CIEE programs and is readily applied for through your application. All Gilman Scholarship candidates are urged to use it regardless of selection status!
Gilman Scholarship candidates can earn a GAIN Travel Grant of up to $1,500 for program travel!

- $500/$300 toward program costs
Summer/Single Block:
- $250 toward program costs

Qualified Gilman Applicants

Gilman Scholarship Eligibility
- You are a Federal Pell Grant recipient.
- You are a U.S. Citizen.
How Do You Apply?
- Upload the first page of your FAFSA student aid report.
- Upload documentation of your application for the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship.
CIEE Scholarships & Grants applications must be submitted by April 1 for summer and fall programs, and October 15 for winter and spring programs.
If you were not selected as a Gilman Scholar, you must present CIEE documentation to earn the bigger grant sizes listed above.
