About the John Young Scholarship
The Cochener family established this scholarship to honor the legacy of John Young, who described himself as follows:
“He was a fighter pilot at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack; after the war, he went to MIT, earned a degree in aerospace engineering, and joined the Von Braun team at Redstone Arsenal, building Saturn V rockets for the Apollo program.” He was always an encouragement to achieve my professional goals.

Submission:
To apply, compose an essay of no more than 500 words explaining why you’re interested in your chosen subject, how you expect to make a difference, and your objectives and reasons for reaching your aspirations.

Scholarship Requirements:
The application is open to all. In up to 500 words, candidates should explain why they choose their subject of interest, how they want to make a difference, and any personal reasons or aspirations that will help them pursue their professional passion.
Announcement of Recipients
We’ve streamlined and enhanced the scholarship award procedure! Recipients should expect to hear back within three weeks of the award being selected.
Within 6 weeks, the winners will be revealed on the website, in our monthly newsletter, and on social media. Scholarships are announced on a rolling basis, therefore applications will be evaluated up to three months following submission.
Feel welcome to resubmit an amended application three months or more after your first submission.
Rolling Deadline:
This scholarship has a sliding monthly application deadline. Students who apply early are more likely to win.
