About the University of Education Winneba

In Winneba, Ghana’s Central Region, there is a university called the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

However, it was founded in 1992 as a result of a legislative decree (PNDC Law 322) and has ties to the University of Cape Coast. 

Its primary objective is to prepare teachers for Ghana’s educational system. Therefore, to lead a new national vision of education with the goal of refocusing Ghana’s efforts on the path of swift economic and social development.

However, the University of Education, Winneba is tasked with the responsibility of teacher education and creating professional educators.

Also, it is anticipated that the University of Education, Winneba will take the lead in Ghana’s effort to develop academics.

Requirements Needed at the University of Education Winneba

Review the criteria required for admission to the University of Education.

1. WASSCE Entry Requirements

A minimum of six (6) WASSCE Credits (A1–C6) must be earned, with three (3) of the “core” subjects—English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies—counting toward that total.

2. School Certificate/GCE Entry Requirements

Five (5) GCE “O” Level credits, covering English Language, Mathematics, and

3. Diploma Holders

A Higher National Diploma or its equivalent from a previous field or area of study is required.

Interviews are possible for full-time applicants.

SSSCE Entry Requirement

Six passes (A-D) across all areas, including math and English; and

The area of expertise must be covered by at least three (3) of the passes.

  • Mature Applicants – Gh¢350.00 ( This includes the cost for the entrance exams to be organized by the University)
  • Post Graduate Applicants – Gh¢280.00
  • International Applicants – GH¢586.00
