Ogun State is a state in southwestern Nigeria. In Ogun State, there are sixteen universities, one of which is owned by the federal government, three by the state government, and twelve by private individuals.

Federal Universities in  Ogun State

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) was established as a specialized university by the Federal Government of Nigeria on January 1, 1988, with a three-pronged mandate of teaching, research, and extension services.

FUNAAB’s land area is approximately 10,000 hectares in the northwestern end of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

The university offers 179 academic programs, which include 44 undergraduate programs, 135 graduate programs, 22 Postgraduate diploma programs, 57 Masters’ degree programs, and 56 Doctorate degree programs.

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) is the only federal university in Ogun State.

1. Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye

Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye is a public university in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Nigeria.

The university was founded as Ogun State University (OSU) on July 7, 1982, and was renamed Olabisi Onabanjo University on May 29, 2001, in honor of Chief (Dr.) Olabisi Onabanjo, the then civilian governor of Ogun State, whose efforts gave birth to the university.

Meanwhile, many students still refer to the university as OSU, an abbreviation for the previous name.

The university has produced 10,291 graduates and 1,697 postgraduates.

2. Tai Solarin University of Education Ijebu Ode

Tai Solarin (1922–1994), a Nigerian educational administrator and human rights activist, was honored with the university’s name. It is Nigeria’s 76th accredited university.

On 29 January 2005, the administration of Otunba Gbenga Daniel declared the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED, pronounced TARSUD) a full-fledged university (and a transformation of the former Tai Solarin College of Education, founded in January 1978).

It incorporated a four-year mandatory vocational and entrepreneurial study into the curriculum of its B.Ed, B.Sc(Ed), B.Sc, and B.A (Ed) programs, so that students graduate with two certificates.

3. Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology Abeokuta

Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology, Abeokuta, founded in 2017, is a non-profit public higher education institution in the large city of Abeokuta (population range of 500,000-1,000,000 inhabitants), Ogun.

Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology, Abeokuta (MAUSTECH) is a coeducational Nigerian higher education institution that is officially recognized by the National Universities Commission of Nigeria.

Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH) in Abeokuta provides courses and programs that lead to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor’s degrees in a variety of fields of study.
