Now, so many people have been asking when the resumption date is fixed by the government for schools to reopen. This includes not only primary and secondary schools but tertiary institutions as well.

School Resumption Date in Nigeria(Primary and Secondary)

Consequently, the Federal Ministry of Education has announced school resumption in Nigeria. All schools will resume on 9th May 2023 as the new resumption date for all schools for the 2023/2024 academic session. This information is strictly for all primary and secondary schools. Therefore, they are expected to resume the new term on the above date.

Following this, all students are to make preparations for resumption at their various schools on the slated date above. This is to ensure they don’t miss important topics that will be taught on the first week of resumption in various schools across Nigeria.

However, please be aware that the state government can also alter this date as it demands, but the Federal Ministry of Education has proposed its own date for schools to resume. So, for now, all schools are expected to have this in mind.

Furthermore, for private schools and public schools alike, the resumption date is on 9th May 2024. All educational institutions will reopen for the new term on this date after the holidays.

The secondary school resumption date is still the same as the primary school resumption date in Nigeria.FG announced Monday 9th May 2024 as the new updated resumption date for all the schools in Nigeria.

This update is mostly for tertiary institutions in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Many students are eager to know when schools will resume in Nigeria for the continuation of the 2024/2025 academic session.  The announcement for the resumption date for all Universities and a new date is set.

When is school resumption in Nigeria for the 2024 academic session? The Nigerian Government has announced the date for schools to resume. This is great news for parents, teachers, and students across Nigeria. The new resumption date for schools in Nigeria is Monday 20th March 2024. The new resumption date is for all Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education.

When will schools resume after the election?

Following the directives from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), there has been an extension for school resumption in Nigeria. The extension is by one week because of the conduct of the governorship and state houses of assembly election. Hence, some Nigerian universities have announced new resumption dates for academic activities.

Meanwhile, Nigerian tertiary institutions had earlier been directed by the Federal Ministry of Education to suspend academic activities. This took place until 14th March when the election would’ve been concluded.

But INEC postponed the second round of the country’s general elections earlier scheduled for 11th March, to 18th March. Generally, some universities have picked 20th March for the date of school resumption respectively

Some school’s Resumption Date for Universities

Consequently, the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Lagos State University (LASU), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), and Usmanu Danfodiyo University (UDUS), among others, have announced new resumption dates.

Meanwhile, The University of Abuja had informed the general public that it was not going on break and would instead continue academic activities virtually throughout the period of the break.

Also, The spokesperson for Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Lamara Garba, stated that the Senate of the institution has not decided on a new resumption date.

On the other hand, the Dean of Students’ Affairs for Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), Umar Aliyu, said the one-week extension by INEC would be applicable to the institution. But there’s no definite resumption date yet.

The Senate for UNILAG and LASU approved Tuesday, March 21st for resumption. This is from the statements from both schools.

Meanwhile, LASU said the ongoing examinations would continue on Wednesday 22nd March. This is a day after the new resumption date scheduled for Tuesday, 21st March.

This directive by Mr. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the LASU Senate and a professor. He also said the institution would continue to provide skeletal services from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm throughout the break.
