Rutgers was established in 1766 and was associated with the Dutch Reformed Church under the name Queen’s College.
It is one of nine colonial institutions in the United States that were established before the American Revolution. In addition, it is the eighth-oldest college in the country and the second-oldest in New Jersey after Princeton University.
