Ron Brown Scholarship

The Ron H. Brown Scholarship promotes higher education for civic-minded and intellectually bright African Americans as a way to pay tribute to Ronald H. Brown’s legacy.

About the Scholarship

The Ronald H. Brown Scholarship Program (RBSP) grants 45–50 $40,000 four-year scholarships ($10,000 per year) to the most gifted and financially struggling high school seniors who exhibit a strong interest in public service.

Also community engagement, business entrepreneurship, and global citizenship are the four pillars of the late Ronald H. Brown’s mission to uplift people of all races, cultures, and ethnicities, especially our underprivileged youth.

Renewable scholarships can be used by winners to enroll in any qualified four-year college or university in the United States.

Ron Brown scholarships can be utilized to pursue any academic field and are not restricted to any particular field or career goal.

Selection Process

Prior to starting college, the spring is when Ron Brown Scholars are chosen. Between November and February, officials from the Ron Brown Scholar Program screen applications.

Finalists are requested to travel to Washington, DC for a weekend selection process in March at the expense of the Ron Brown Scholar Fund.

Members of the Ron Brown National Selection Committee conduct interviews with finalists, and they are required to take part in a number of weekend activities.

On the basis of their application documents, interviews, and involvement in Selection Weekend activities, scholarship winners are chosen.
