In this post, we’ll look at another intriguing merit-based scholarship possibility for high school seniors: the Ron Brown Scholarship (also known as the Ron Brown Scholar Program).

We’ll explain what the Ron Brown Scholarship is, who is eligible, how much money it offers, and how to apply.

About the Ron Brown Scholarship

The Ron Brown Scholarship celebrates Ronald H. Brown’s legacy by providing a selective scholarship program that promotes higher education for community-minded and intellectually competent African Americans.

RBSP competitively awards 45 – 50 four-year $40,000 scholarships ($10,000 per year) to the most talented and economically challenged high school seniors who show a strong interest in public service, community engagement, business entrepreneurship, and global citizenship.

Recipients can use the renewable scholarships to attend any approved four-year college or institution in the United States.

Ron Brown scholarships are not restricted to any sector or career goal and can be used to study any academic subject.

Since the program’s establishment in 1996, 634 students have been declared Ron Brown Scholars.

Applicants to the Scholarship must be Black/African American, US citizens or permanent residents, and current high school seniors at the time of application.

  • Participate in community service and leadership.
  • Demonstrate financial necessity.
  • Proven academic accomplishment.
