About PTDF Scholarship

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), is a Federal Government agency tasked with developing indigenous human capacity and petroleum technology to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry.

However, its seeks applications from suitably qualified candidates for Overseas MSc and Ph.D. scholarships for specific programs at selected institutions through its PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme for the 2022/2023 academic session.

The plan was created to provide candidates with the chance to gain from a diverse body of knowledge as well as the resources provided by world-class universities throughout the world. Candidates are asked to apply to specialized programs at partner institutions through PTDF.

The prize comprises the supply of airplane tickets, health insurance, tuition and bench fees (where applicable), and allowances to cover the costs of housing and living expenses.

Applications for the 2023/2024 award will be confined to PTDF partner universities in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia where the scholarship’s high standards may be maintained and the scheme’s objectives are best achieved.

Selection Process, Criteria & Requirements

PTDF scholarships are very competitive, and only students who excel in all areas are chosen.

Based on the qualifications given, they will ask the top applicants from each state for an interview, where a selection committee will be formed to evaluate applications using the following criteria:

  • Academic merit as demonstrated by the quality of degrees, complete academic transcripts, and other professional certifications obtained
  • The applicant must cite relevant books (Ph.D. applicants only)
  • Professional organization membership
  • The study/research plan’s feasibility.

For MSc

  • A minimum of a Second Class Upper (2.1) certificate in their first degree or a Second Class Lower (2.2) qualification along with appropriate industrial experience
  • Must have fulfilled the National Youth Service requirement (NYSC)
  • Computer literacy is required.
  • 5 O/level credits required, including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) outlining the reason(s) for the proposed study, its industrial significance, and its predicted influence on national development.
  • Before applying for the scholarship, applicants must have a National Identity Number (NIN). Applicants should keep in mind that they will need to validate their NIN before progressing with the application (NIMC verification charges apply). Also, Multiple Applications Will Result In Automatic Disqualification.

For PhD

  • Must have fulfilled the National Youth Service requirement (NYSC)
  • Computer literacy is required.
  • The first-degree certificate with a minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) and a good second-degree certificate
  • A study proposal related to the oil and gas business (no more than five pages) that includes the following items: Topic, introduction, goal, approach, and data-collecting mode
  • All professors must present a letter from their Vice Chancellor verifying that they do not hold any other scholarships.
  • Before applying for the scholarship, applicants must have a National Identity Number (NIN). Applicants should keep in mind that they will need to validate their NIN before progressing with the application (NIMC verification charges apply).

Required Documents

Applicants are requested to scan and upload the following documents to their online application forms:

First Degree Certificate or Result Statement

WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results and the PINs on the application forms to allow PTDF to access the O’level results on the relevant website).

Local Government Identification Letter Recent Passport Photograph

Certificate of Master’s Degree (Ph.D. Applicants only)

Evidence of professional association membership

Candidates who pass the first round of screening will be asked to submit their transcripts; all candidates are recommended to prepare their transcripts for submission in advance of such a request.
