Posse Scholarship

Deadlines and procedures for nominations may change depending on the Posse city or program. At the beginning of each year, be sure to get in touch with your neighborhood Posse office for further information.

Keep in mind that the nomination procedures for the Posse Arts Program and Posse Veterans Program are carried out independently.

Each Posse Scholar receives a full scholarship to one of Posse’s partner colleges or universities, covering all of their tuition cost

About Posse Scholarship

The simple idea of sending a group of students to college together so they could “back each other up” became the inspiration for a program that today has identified, recruited, and trained more than 10,000 students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential.

Posse was founded in 1989 as a result of a student who said, “I never would’ve dropped out of college if I’d had my posse with me.”

Scholarship Requirements

To be eligible, a high school senior must:

1. Be nominated by their high school or a community-based organization

2. Be in the first term of their senior year in high school

3. Demonstrate leadership within their high school, community, or family

4. Demonstrate academic potential

5. Apply on time; depending on the Posse city or program, nominations are accepted in the spring and summer before senior year begins (contact your local Posse office for specific deadlines)

6. The Posse Scholarship is neither a minority nor a need-based scholarship. It is open to students of all backgrounds.

STEM Posse Scholarships?

The ideal STEM applicants are high school seniors who have the following attributes in addition to those we look for in Posse Scholars:

1. A STEM major with a demonstrated interest in the field.

2. Enrolled in demanding STEM courses in high school.

3. The ability to “think” like a scientist; they are enquiring, participate in scientific investigation and persevere until they can understand a problem.

4. A range of interests both inside and outside of STEM professions.

Posse Cities Recruiting STEM Scholars

The college and university partners of Posse each offer degrees in math and science. STEM students make up the majority of Posses.

All of the participating Scholars in the Posse STEM Program have demonstrated an interest in STEM, and they all get specific programming to help them achieve their objectives.

You must be registered with a Posse city recruiting for Posse’s STEM partners in order to nominate for the Posse STEM Program.

The Dynamic Assessment Process

The Dynamic Assessment Process (DAP), a creative evaluation technique created by Posse, is used from September to December of every year to find young leaders who might be missed by traditional admissions standards but who can succeed at top schools and universities.

DAP gives pupils the chance to exhibit their inherent leadership qualities, their aptitude for teamwork, and their drive and ambition to succeed by using unorthodox forums to assess potential.

DAP has been demonstrated to be a very powerful technique for locating exceptional young leaders. Posse personnel and partner college and university administrators finally choose a diverse group of 10 students a Posse — for each institution through a three-part assessment process that includes individual and large-group interviews.

Posse Access

An online database called Posse Access was created to give Posse partner colleges and universities exclusive access to student nominees who had not been chosen for regular admission.

The hundreds of finalists countrywide who are not chosen might choose to make their application profiles accessible to each of Posse’s partner institutions through Posse Access.

Partner institutions gain from Posse’s comprehensive method of evaluating student potential by finding prospects through the Posse Access database and seeing a substantially larger pool of highly qualified applicants.
