Patient Care Technician|Job Description
Patient Care Technicians give patients in a hospital or other medical facility basic healthcare. Every day, they’ll maintain the patients’ rooms clean, sanitized, and organized.
Patient Care Technicians will visit patients on a regular basis to monitor their health and vital signs, administer medications prescribed by Nurses or Physicians, and provide emotional support before and after treatments.
Also, assist patients with basic tasks such as eating, using the restroom, or grooming themselves.
They often help doctors or nurses during treatments and explain treatment techniques and recommended drugs to patients and their families.
If the Patient Care Technician sees any changes in the patient’s health following treatment, they will tell the Doctor or Nurse.
Patient Care Technician Responsibilities:
- Assisting the healthcare team with treatment administration.
- Assisting in the education of patients’ families on the necessary care.
- Obtaining liquid samples or specimens for testing purposes.
- Cleaning and organizing patient rooms.
- Keeping proper patient records.
- Maintaining constant contact with the patient’s medical team.
- They monitor vital signs and patient health.
- They perform basic nursing procedures such as medication administration.
- Giving patients emotional support and aiding them with necessities including nutritional intake, grooming, and personal cleanliness.

Patient Care Technician Requirements:
- A high school diploma or GED is necessary.
- CNA certification is required.
- Work experience in patient care.
