Obama Scholarship ASU Eligibility

Eligibility for the Obama Scholarship at Arizona State University: To qualify for the Barack Obama Scholars Program, you must be:

  • An Arizona resident. This covers Native American high school seniors who do not live in Arizona but fulfil the Arizona residency requirements for tuition at ASU.
  • A full-time first-year student starting in the fall.
  • Admitted to ASU in the fall for a degree program.

In addition, eligible students must:

  • Meet all course competencies and one aptitude criteria for first-year admission.
  • After graduating from an Arizona high school, enrol in ASU’s autumn semester immediately. If you do not enrol at ASU in the fall, you will forfeit your eligibility for future participation in this program.
  • Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with a total yearly family income of $42,400 or less.
  • Be qualified for a Federal Pell Grant.

Other important information:

  • Full-time, on-campus students enrolled in iCourses and ASU Sync are eligible for the ASU Obama Scholarship.
  • ASU’s online degree programs are not eligible. If you change your major to ASU Online, you will be withdrawn from the Obama Scholars Program and your financial assistance will be adjusted accordingly.
  • There is no further application for this program. Students who file their FAFSA and have a complete ASU admission application (application, transcripts, and application fee) before the deadlines listed below will be automatically evaluated.

Important Obama Dates Updates:

Students must complete two stages by the deadlines shown below to be considered and evaluated for the Obama Scholars Program.

Application Deadline:

January 15–Students must submit their entire ASU admission application. A comprehensive application contains both the admissions application and the application fee.

FAFSA Filing Deadline:

Students must complete their FAFSA by May 1 to be considered for Obama Scholars evaluation.

If you have a Social Security number but your parent does not, please know that you will not be punished if your FAFSA application is delayed due to this recognized issue.
