Gilman Scholarship

About the Gilman Scholarship

With the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program of the U.S. Department of State, students with limited financial resources can study or intern abroad while learning skills essential to our economy and national security.

For American college students who opt to pursue international internships or study abroad, the program gives grants of up to $5,000.

Candidates must either present proof that they are currently receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application or proof that they will do so throughout their study abroad or internship in order to be considered.

Undergraduates who might not otherwise be able to participate due to financial limitations can study and intern abroad thanks to the Gilman Program.

The program’s goal is to motivate students to pursue studies and internships abroad in a range of countries and locales.

Students are encouraged to study foreign languages, especially those deemed essential for maintaining national security, according to the curriculum.

Veterans are encouraged to apply, and preference is given to them when all other factors are equal.
