About Deakin scholarship

Deakin recognizes students with consistently high academic performance and the potential to make a leading contribution to the university and its communities. Unsuccessful applicants of the Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarship will automatically be considered for the Deakin International Scholarship.

Scholarship Benefits

  • This scholarship is available for the normal duration of your course.
  • 25% of your student contributions (tuition fees)

Please Note: This bursary will not apply to H911 (Doctor of Medicine).

Deakin Undergraduate Scholarships

We offer undergraduate scholarships in a number of study areas to support you on your journey at Deakin.

1. Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Scholarship

Deakin’s prestigious Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Scholarship is awarded each year to eligible undergraduate students whose exceptional academic achievements and extracurricular activities truly set them apart.

Benefits: 100% of your tuition fees paid; cash payment of $5000 per year; inclusion in the Vice-Chancellor’s Professional Excellence Program.

Value: $35,000 to $80,000, depending on your course duration

ATAR: 95 and above

2. Deakin Scholarship for Excellence

This scholarship is designed for students who show exceptional promise within and beyond their academic achievements.

Strong academic performance and excellence in extracurricular activities, sports, the arts, community service, or leadership all hold the key to success.

Value: $5,000 paid per year as cash or towards tuition or a combination

3. Deakin Student Support Scholarship

A Deakin Student Support Scholarship can help if you have financial, personal, or social barriers to contend with and we have a few hundred of these scholarships for deserving undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Value: up to $10,000 per year

4. Deakin Achieving Potential Scholarship

A Deakin Achieving Potential Scholarship offers financial support to students who display passion, perseverance, and commitment to study and experience financial or personal hardship.

This scholarship program is supported by a community of generous donors who are committed to increasing educational pathways and building a brighter future for students who chose to study at Deakin.

5. Donor Scholarships

Each year through the generous support of our donors we are able to offer additional scholarships to our students.  A few of these opportunities are listed below:

  • George Alexander Foundation Scholarships
  • Helen Macpherson Smith Trust Scholarship

The opening and closing dates, along with the application process will vary depending on the scholarship.

Scholarship Eligibility and selection

Applicants must:

1. Be prospective international students

2. Be eligible to study at Deakin University

3. Not have accepted any other Deakin scholarship or bursary

4. Meet the academic criteria:

  • Deakin Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship: An 85% average (or equivalent) in previous studies
  • Deakin International Scholarship: A 65% average (or equivalent) in previous studies

Selection of successful applicants for the fixed number of scholarships will be competitive and may require average scores above the stated minimum requirements.

Application Supporting documents

Deakin Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship applicants are required to provide:

  • Completed Deakin International Scholarship Program application form (see reverse side of this flyer)
  • Personal statement (300 words)
  • Two references who can comment on your community engagement and/or leadership capacity
  • Completed application to study at Deakin, including academic transcripts.

Deakin International Scholarship Applicants are Required to Provide:

  • Completed Deakin International Scholarship Program application form (see reverse side of this flyer);
  • Personal statement (300 words);
  • Completed application to study at Deakin, including academic transcripts.

Your personal statement must be written by you and reflect your personal views. It should contain:

  • An outline of why you want to study at Deakin University
  • An overview of any extracurricular activities and work experience (paid or voluntary) you have undertaken
  • Why do you think you would make an outstanding ambassador for Deakin University
  • Any other information that will assist your application.
  • Applicants may also be asked to attend an interview.

Important Dates;

This scholarship is open to all students starting their studies at Deakin. It is recommended that theapplications be submitted at least one month prior to starting your studies at Deakin.

What Happens Next?

Competition for scholarships is extremely competitive. Once we receive your scholarship application, your application will be ranked against other applicants from across the world based on academic achievement.

Scholarships are offered on a rolling basis in the months leading up to the start of the trimester. Only applicants who are successful in receiving a scholarship will be notified of the outcome of their scholarship application.
